Ever since Levi was diagnosed with Autism and we began therapies, I found myself constantly gathering a team to support him. Reflecting on the past 11 years, I realize that I've always had a team surrounding me, albeit evolving over time.
In the earlier years, my approach was driven by fear and uncertainty. I built relationships with professionals out of necessity, seeking guidance on navigating this unfamiliar journey. As Levi grew older, I heavily relied on psychological evaluations and their recommendations. These assessments served as my compass, guiding me to experts in various areas outlined in his evaluation.
However, it wasn't until the challenges of Covid and our decision to homeschool Levi that I truly grasped the importance of having a solid team. It became clear that to create an environment where Levi could flourish, we needed to regroup and address all aspects of his well-being—social, emotional, health, and educational.
As Levi matured, I prioritized finding specialized doctors in autism, establishing an educational environment tailored to his needs, and incorporating in-home ABA therapy for life and communication skills development. Simultaneously, we fostered his socialization through a supportive community, primarily our church.
Looking back, I've realized the immense value of having a cohesive team. For the first time in 11 years, we have a team that communicates effectively, all working towards Levi's best interests. This collaboration has brought much-needed peace for me as a mother and has allowed our family unit to thrive.
Moreover, having a supportive team has enabled us to bring more services into our home, reclaiming valuable time. The most significant impact, however, has been the remarkable progress we've witnessed in Levi. He is closing gaps and making tremendous strides, thanks to the consistent discipline and support provided by our team.
As I reflect on the past 11 years, I can unequivocally say that having a supportive team has made all the difference for Levi and our family. It's been the cornerstone of his progress and our collective resilience. Through the highs and lows, our team remains steadfast, offering hope, encouragement, and unwavering support on this journey called autism.
